I have fond memories of Tropical Hut cheeseburgers back home – fast food burgers here taste so bland in comparison! This recipe reminds me a bit of that back-home burger taste. (Can be made Paleo by using coconut oil and omitting cheese.)
1/2 cup diced onion
2 tsp minced garlic (optional)
1 Tbsp butter
1 lb ground beef
¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese (omit for Paleo and add 1 tsp salt instead)
Sauté the onion and garlic in the butter over medium low heat until the onion is caramelized, about 8-10min. Let cool.
Combine the onion mixture with the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
Divide into 4 to 6 patties and cook or grill over medium heat 3-5 min per side until cooked to desired doneness. Top with sliced cheese during the last minute of cooking, if desired. Serve immediately with toppings such as sautéed onion rings, tomato slices, pickles, lettuce, ketchup.
