Avocado Banana Berry “Smoothie”

This “smoothie” is  Paleo friendly – completely non-dairy and gluten-free. Great way to introduce avocado and berries to kids, .using fresh or frozen fruit (freeze almost overripe berries and bananas to be used for future smoothies). Very healthy snack – make it even healthier by adding chia seeds. I haven’t tried freezing any leftovers as ice pops, as it will likely turn brown because of the avocado.

Ingredients:

1.5 cups strawberries, blueberries, and/or raspberries, fresh or frozen*
1 banana, fresh or frozen*
1 avocado, peeled and pitted
1/2 to 1 cup water
6 ice cubes
chia seeds (optional)

Blend the berries, banana, avocado, ice cubes and 1/2 cup water together until smooth. Add more water if needed, especially if using frozen berries, as smoothie will tend to be thicker. Pour into serving cups or glasses. Sprinkle chia seeds if desired, making sure the seeds do not touch the sides of the serving cups (they tend to stick). Serve immediately.

*To freeze berries – spread on baking sheet in single layer and place in freezer. Slice strawberries first. Once frozen, store in ziplock bags and return to freezer until needed.

*To freeze bananas, slice into circles before freezing in ziplock bags.
